  • Innovative - Patent Holders of New Technology to Speed Your Production and Lower Your Costs
  • Quality - Machines that Last
  • Dependable - Kempsmith Machines Since 1888

In 1888 Frank Kempsmith founded the Kempsmith Machine Tool Company on the principle of providing a heavy duty, quality machine tool, and the service to promote a long, productive machine life-span. These principles are just as important today.

In a time when companies fail and forever disappear, or are absorbed into other corporations and lose their identity, we have survived and prospered. Kempsmith continues to grow and succeed by concentrating on the simple premise that if we provide high quality products, conscientious customer service and innovative design, you, the customer, will identify Kempsmith as the source for future machine purchases.

We, the employees of Kempsmith, will continue to provide Quality, Service and Innovative Design to pursue your satisfaction and to become a world leader in our marketplace.

The Kempsmith Machine Co., Inc, started by Frank Kempsmith in 1888 up to the present day has always been a machine building company. From 1888 until 1973 Kempsmith built milling machines for the machine tool industry. To broaden its product line, Kempsmith started manufacturing file folder machines in 1960. Kempsmith kept expanding its filed folder machinery line and developing new machines to meet customer needs.

Kempsmith’s file folder machines started with web fed die cutting, scoring and waste removal. The product line grew to include tinting, printing, embossing, folding and gluing to deliver finished products out onto a delivery table.

Kempsmith’s success in the building of file folder machines was so superior that it is the dominant company making these machines worldwide.

In the early 1980’s Kempsmith designed and built a web fed folding carton die cutter. This product line expanded into a sophisticated servo controlled web fed platen cutter that was manufactured and sold to printing press and folding carton manufacturers.

Kempsmith has recently introduced a new variable repeat rotary die cutter (VRRC) to manufacturer folding cartons. This innovative design, with patent pending, allows changing repeat lengths on a rotary die cutter without changing cutting cylinders. An innovation that is extremely cost effective and a very attractive approach for converters doing short to medium run work.

Kempsmith acquired D&L Mfg. in 1999. D&L has had a rich history in the beverage industry since 1921. D&L is well known and respected for bottled water washing and filling machines as well as beverage bottle washers. Beverage bottle washers wash and rinse a variety of bottles for the beverage industry in preparation for filling. D&L manufactures bottled water washing and filling machines to wash, rinse, fill and cap bottles of water in 3 and 5 gallon bottles. Decappers are also available to reduce the bottler’s costs.

Machining has always been a crucial part of our manufacturing process. To compliment our talents and abilities, Kempsmith performs contract machining and assembly. Our vast knowledge of machining principles and assembly techniques, allows us to machine, assemble, wire and build all of our machines as well as machines for other industries. Machined parts include a variety of frame, weldments, rollers, gears, plates and shafts. We can handle any machining challenge.
